Whitehouse ISD Family Focus

January 29, 2026

Whitehouse ISD Families,

Thank you for your patience and understanding during our recent weather related closure. These decisions are never simple, and we know they can create real challenges for families, especially those juggling work schedules. Our goal is always to make the call as early as possible so you have time to prepare while keeping safety at the center of every decision. We appreciate your trust as we work to balance student safety with the needs of our community.

As we step into a new semester, it is a great time to look ahead, set goals, and lay the foundation for what is next. The spring always moves quickly, especially for our secondary students, and we want to make sure families feel informed and supported as we move into the months ahead.

One of the ways we help students explore their options is through Passport to My Future, happening on Thursday, February 5, at 6:00 p.m. at Whitehouse High School. This event is designed for 8th graders and their families and offers a closer look at the programs, endorsements, and pathways available in high school. If you have an 8th grader, I hope you will join us. It is a valuable opportunity to help them think about their future and the courses that will get them there.

This is also an exciting time for our seniors as they begin their final semester of high school. Keep an eye out for a delivery survey coming soon regarding the Graduate 2026 yard signs. We are looking forward to helping celebrate this milestone with your family.

As we settle into the spring semester, things tend to move quickly. Between upcoming activities, important deadlines, and campus events, the next few weeks will be full. They will also be filled with progress, purpose, and opportunities for students to shine. I am proud of the strong start we have had, and I am looking forward to carrying that momentum into February.

School Board Appreciation Month

January is School Board Appreciation Month, and I want to take a moment to thank our Board of Trustees for their continued leadership and service. These individuals volunteer countless hours to support our students and staff, make thoughtful decisions, and put kids at the center of their work. Their commitment does not go unnoticed.

This year, several of our elementary campuses came together to create a special message of thanks for our board members. I hope you’ll take a moment to watch it: School Board Appreciation Video

2026-2027 Academic Calendar Approved

Thank you to everyone who participated in our calendar surveys this fall. Your feedback helped shape the final 2026-2027 academic calendar, which has now been approved.

There are a few key updates to note:
  • Two Parent Conference Days (October 9 and February 12) are now required by state law and will serve as student holidays.
  • Four additional early release days have been added on Wednesdays to provide dedicated teacher planning time with as little disruption to families as possible. These dates are September 30, October 28, January 27, and February 24.
  • December 18 and May 27 remain traditional early release days tied to winter break and the last day of school.
These changes reflect the priorities families, staff, and community members shared in the calendar survey. The 2026-2027 Academic Calendar is available on our website.

Campus Teachers of the Year

Last week, we celebrated our Campus Teachers of the Year, a group of exceptional educators who put students first, build strong relationships, and make learning meaningful every day. While each campus selects just one honoree, these teachers reflect the dedication and excellence found across all of our classrooms. Please join me in congratulating them and celebrating the outstanding teaching happening throughout Whitehouse ISD.

WHS Cheer Competes at UIL State

Our WHS Cheer team made us proud at the UIL 5A Division 2 State Competition, advancing further than any other 5A school in East Texas and finishing 16th in the state. Cheerleading requires countless hours of practice, spirit leadership, and teamwork, and we’re proud of Coach Barry and her team for representing Whitehouse with excellence.

Three Students Named to All-State Choir

We are proud to announce that three WHS students have earned a place in the TMEA Large School All-State Choirs, the highest honor for Texas choir students:
  • Zachary Mitchell (Senior) – Mixed Choir (second consecutive year)
  • Josephine Rocha (Junior) – Treble Choir (second consecutive year)
  • Andrew Cook (Junior) – Tenor/Bass Choir
All eight students who competed at Area represented our school with dedication and professionalism. Congratulations to these outstanding musicians.

UIL Congress State Tournament

Congratulations to senior Sahlika Qureshi on advancing to the Super Congress round at the UIL State Congressional Tournament. This marks her second trip to State, and she now ranks in the top 18 students statewide in 5A. We wish her the best of luck as she competes at the Texas State Capitol.

Whitehouse Swimmers Advance to Regionals

Our WHS Swim Team had a great showing at the district meet, with strong performances from both the boys and girls teams and most of our swimmers headed to regionals. We’re proud of the hard work they’ve put in this season. Congratulations to Coach Eeds, Coach Dyer, and our swimmers, and best of luck in New Caney on February 6-7.

Lady Cats Stay Undefeated

Our Lady Cats continue their incredible season, now holding a perfect 32-0 record. They’ve fought through some close games, shown grit when it mattered most, and found ways to finish strong every time. With just a few games left in the regular season, we’re cheering them on as they work to keep this remarkable streak going. Let’s go, Lady Cats!

Student Spotlight: New Weekly Feature

Congratulations to Kinley Curtis on receiving our Student Spotlight Award for January! Kinley was nominated by Stanton-Smith Elementary Principal Greg Dean for her outstanding contributions and character.

Moving forward, we will recognize a Student Spotlight each week throughout the month. We have incredible students across Whitehouse ISD doing great things every day, and we’re excited to continue celebrating them as often as we can.

Firearm Storage Safety

Texas law requires school districts to share information with parents and guardians about the safe storage of firearms three times each year. We encourage all families to review these important resources and reminders about keeping firearms securely stored. Thank you for doing your part to help keep our community safe. For more information, visit the Keep ’Em Safe Texas website.
