INFORMATION ITEMS

Teacher Spotlight

WJHS Band Directors Chris Huffty and Daniel Southerland recently highlighted not only the junior high band program, but the strength of the entire Whitehouse ISD band program. They shared valuable insight into what makes the band more than just an elective; it is truly a comprehensive program.
Our band directors work with students from 6th through 12th grade, creating strong relationships, consistency in instruction, and a seamless progression throughout the program.

Career and Technical Education

Mr. Holton, Director of Career and Technical Education (CTE), provided an update on recent accomplishments and shared where our CTE programs are headed next. Exciting news for next year includes the launch of a Cosmetology program through a partnership with The Salon Professional Academy (TSPA) in Whitehouse. Students will have the opportunity to begin pursuing industry-recognized training right here in our community. Mr. Holton also highlighted the renewal of our partnership with East Texas Refrigeration and shared that we are exploring the addition of an ROTC program in the future.

We look forward to the continued growth and expansion of CTE opportunities for Whitehouse ISD students.

Math Curriculum Update

Our Director of Curriculum, Mrs. Saul, provided an update on our math curriculum. The department will begin reviewing instructional materials for honors math, state assessment requirements, and ways to continually enhance the learning experience to ensure students are well-prepared throughout their academic journey.

Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA)

Dr. Taylor provided an update on the Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA), including the program’s goals, our current standing, and how we will continue strengthening implementation moving forward. The goal of TIA is to provide highly effective teachers with a meaningful pathway to a competitive annual salary, while also helping attract and retain strong educators in the classroom. For the 2024–2025 year, Whitehouse ISD has 101 designated teachers, including 43 new designations and 32 improved designations.
